Maria Montessori’s philosophy states that children should be free to work at their own pace with materials they have chosen, either alone or with others. Between birth and the age of six, children are able to acquire specific skills with an ease that will never be duplicated in later life. To take full advantage of these extraordinary abilities, TTMS offers an enriched and prepared environment in which children are encouraged to explore their interests and develop their full potential by stimulating the cognitive, social, emotional, physical and creative stages of development. In our school children’s innate zeal for learning is encouraged by allowing them opportunities to choose among an array of purposeful activities. The children are actively encouraged to help look after the classroom and respect the materials. Whether it is replacing materials in the correct place, preparing a snack or cleaning up a spillage, the children are encouraged to do everything for themselves. The aim is to encourage active, self-directed learning by providing experiences contributing to the growth of confident, self-motivated, independent learners who are respectful of themselves and others. Montessori teachers ‘guide’ learning rather than impose it and the child is allowed to progress at their own speed. Maria Montessori said, ‘the greatest sign of success for a teacher – is to be able to say, the children are now working as if I did not exist’. We believe that a child (ren) will feel safe, secure and happy in an atmosphere that will challenge and maximize their full potential.
Tender Treasures Montessori School believes that it is essential to have a strong relationship with parents and our staff; this will ensure we are providing your child with the best possible care. We encourage and welcome parents to participate in TTMS’s program. We are always open to your comments and concerns and will do our best to satisfy your family needs.
We look forward to working with you and to providing your children with a lifetime of new and exciting opportunities. Dr Maria Montessori discovered that children learn best if they are given:
